  1. -Are you triggered by voices? sounds? sights?
    All of them.

-Which of the above trigger types is the strongest for you?
It used to be only sounds. It took a lot of searching but now that I have found an ASMRtist that I like, his voice is the best trigger for me, especially when combined with the tapping and crinkling sounds in his videos. sights are definitely lowest on the list, I rarely need visuals to trigger my ASMR.

-Can you experience ASMR by listening to a video with the screen off?
Absolutely. I usually don’t watch the actual video unless it’s something interesting, I prefer listening with my eyes closed.

-What specific actions, sounds, scenarios, or role-plays in a video stimulate your ASMR the strongest?
Inaudible or barely audible whispering, usually in a male voice as female voices don’t really trigger me ( i think it has to do with the fact that I was always closer with the men in my family than the women) also anything in the kitchen; kitchen sounds are really strong triggers for me, especially refrigerator doors, milk jugs and bread bags.

-Do your immediate surroundings make a difference to your ability to experience ASMR from a video?
Yes. I have to be in an at least somewhat comfortable place, it doesn’t have to be familiar, but if I feel antsy or nervous at all it greatly hinders my ability to experience ASMR.

-Do you prefer intentional ASMR videos or unintentional ASMR videos?
Now that I know what ASMR is, definitely intentional ones. I used to watch videos of people making those Japanese candy kits because of the crinkling sounds, but after discovering that there are hour long videos of JUST those sounds, I can’t go back to the little 3 minute videos.

-Who are your favorite ASMR artists and why do you like them better than other artists?
Hands down Ephemeral Rift is my #1 fave. I love his voice and he has a great sense of humor. He also puts so much effort into his videos and it really shows. Also The sheer variety of his videos: he’s got role plays, rambles, nature walks, food/drink reviews and more. My second favorite ASMRtist is The ASMR nerd. His voice is so calming and he has some neat tidbits of information in his game playthroughs. His videos are good for listening to when trying to go so sleep because he has such a soothing approach.

-For you, is the ASMR stimulated by a video similar or different from the ASMR stimulated by a real world situation?
I would say different. I like slightly weirder stuff (Like ER’s rift-world roleplay videos haha) when watching videos, but my real world triggers are the normal things like hair brushing, which is something i don’t really care so much about in videos.

  2. I get a much stronger response from sounds close to my left ear, for some reason, but both ears respond. The right ear becomes more sensitive over time during the video, if stimulation is sustained. Direct whispers into one ear are my most powerful trigger, with mouth sounds following close behind, then tapping and scratching, then cutting. The closer these sounds are to my ear canal, the more powerful the sensation. These triggers induce tingling that emanates from behind the effected ear and washes over my back on the effected side. I do not need videos to experience this, but the mild euphoric feeling requires the video feed and is not brought on by the tingles alone. Sustained audio/video stimulation can bring on a calming buzzed feeling with a full body tingle and euphoric sensation that washes from my gut into my thighs.

  3. I’m new to discovering that ASMR is a ‘thing’, not just a personal oddity, and have been exploring the videos. By far the strongest trigger is a video of folding towels. What does it seems to be a mixture of the rasping sound of the towels being stroked and the slow, rhythmic, very smooth and flowing movement of the hands. The presence or absence of voice seems irrelevant. Of thepresent-wrapping videos, one is very powerful and the others aren’t. The ones I’ve watched are all without speech. The most powerful one combines the sounds of the crinkling tissue paper with very slow, smooth, flowing hand movements, very gentle and even, rhythmic, almost like a very slow dance. The others that worked less well for me were less careful of the hand movements – they were faster sometimes uneven, didn’t flow, stopped and started more – like the performer got too absorbed in the practical task of wrapping and forgot to perform the triggers.

  4. Are you triggered by voices? sounds? sights?

    Mostly whispering and tapping.

Which of the above trigger types is the strongest for you?

    tapping.

Can you experience ASMR by listening to a video with the screen off?

    Yes.

Do you prefer intentional ASMR videos or unintentional ASMR videos?

Either. Although I am not big on role plays.

Who are your favorite ASMR artists and why do you like them better than other artists?

Heather Feather (excellent tapping), ASMRequests (time travel Tuesdays are awesome!), Bob Ross (nuff said), ASMRHQ (great voices), Pigsbum53 (I have a thing for British/Australian accents. She also does videos in Korean which is really cool.)

  5. I am a HUGE fan of personal attention. I always look for medical roleplays, if I can. Mostly eye exams. I like to see someone concentrating on me. I also enjoy following a light. It’s not the act of following the light that triggers me; it’s that the ASMRtist is concentrating on monitoring my eyes.
