Earn an ASMR degree

ASMR Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response UniversityWelcome to the Honorary Degree Program at ASMR University.  These are not real degrees, just a fun and guided way to help you learn more about ASMR and encourage you to contribute to the awareness and understanding of ASMR.

Some of the major goals of ASMR University are to encourage you to:

  • learn more about ASMR
  • create something that adds to the ASMR community
  • expand the understanding of ASMR

To help guide you through these goals and add a little fun to your journey, I’ve created three mock degree programs for you which include:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in ASMR: for those who educate themselves broadly and deeply about ASMR
  • Master’s Degree in ASMR: for those who create something about ASMR
  • Doctoral Degree in ASMR: for those who publish data about ASMR

How to earn your Bachelor’s Degree in ASMR: educate yourself broadly and deeply about ASMR

Step 1: Explore this website.  Check out the links at the top of the site and on the home page.

Step 2: Explore other ASMR resources such as these recommended resources, and seek out additional resources about ASMR.

Step 3: Once you complete Step 2 you have earned your Bachelor’s Degree in ASMR. Congratulations!

Step 4: You can now proceed to “How to earn your Master’s Degree in ASMR”

How to earn your Master’s Degree in ASMR: create something about ASMR

Step 1: Ask yourself this question: “What can I contribute to the ASMR community?”.  It may be a website, a video, a podcast, an article, a forum, a blog, or anything that is about ASMR.  Be creative.

Step 2: Bring your vision from step 1 to reality.  Don’t be afraid to ask for help.  Everyone in the ASMR community is very kind and willing to assist you.

Step 3: Share the news with me via “Email Dr. Richard” form on this page so I can add it to my list of resources and/or write a blog post about it.

Step 4: Once you complete Step 3 you have earned your Master’s Degree in ASMR. Congratulations!

Step 5: You can now proceed to “How to earn your Doctoral Degree in ASMR”.

How to earn your Doctoral Degree in ASMR: publish data about ASMR

Step 1: Approach a faculty member at your school, college, or university and ask them to be your research mentor.  Don’t go it alone.  Your mentor will help you to come up with your research idea, help you to collect your data, and to make sure you are doing it legally, ethically, and correctly.  Click HERE for more helpful guidance about this step.

Step 2: Brainstorm on an ASMR-related research project that feels appropriate to you and your mentor.  Browse some of my archived posts for ideas and/or click here to see completed and in-progress ASMR research projects.

Step 3: Request approval for your project from an ethics committee if your project involves humans (which is likely).  These committees are sometimes called Institutional Review Boards or Human Studies Review Committees and may be located at your institution or at a nearby college, university, or medical institution.   Click here for more information.

Step 4: Let me know about your research project via “Email Dr. Richard” form on this page so I can add it to my list of ASMR research projects in progress and/or write a blog post about it.

Step 5: Publish your data!  That is actually the best way to share it with the world.

Step 6: Once you complete Step 3 you have earned your Doctoral Degree in ASMR. Congratulations!  Let me know about your publication so I can switch your research project from “in-progress” to “completed” on the project page, and also so I can write a blog post about it.

Step 7: Repeat Steps 1-6 above. You are now becoming an official pioneer of science by discovering new frontiers in ASMR.
