Hushaway – a new platform helping neurodivergent children via ASMR triggers and other sounds

HushAway is a gentle sound-based wellbeing platform that helps children, especially those who are neurodivergent, anxious, or emotionally overwhelmed, find peace, focus, and emotional safety.

The platform is using ASMR triggers, Solfeggio frequencies, binaural beats, & soothing narration to support emotional regulation for all children.

A little backstory from the founder, Nicola Maria Rose (Nikki),

HushAway® began because I kept meeting overwhelmed parents and exhausted children with big feelings that had nowhere to land. I wanted to create a soft place, a ‘Sanctuary of Sound’, to help them feel a little safer in their bodies, drift into sleep more easily, and find their way back to themselves after a hard day.”

The concept and goals of the founder and this project were so compelling that I joined their team.

The founder has also announced the official launch of the platform today, along with great things on the horizon,

The full HushAway® Sound Sanctuary, with 400+ stories, soundscapes and affirmations, is coming soon. If you’d like to be first to hear when it opens, there’s an invitation list on the site you can join. “

Are wearable displays a new immersive way to experience ASMR videos?

Most ASMR enthusiasts currently enjoy their ASMR content by watching online videos.

But this is only the beginning of the ways that technology can deliver and heighten ASMR content.

Someday, the majority of ASMR content may be experienced through Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, Haptic Clothing, and other immersive devices that heighten the ASMR experience.

Also, what about wearable displays?  Visualize a pair of sunglasses with mini-screens and speakers built into them.

Has anyone tried to experience ASMR videos by simply utilizing wearable displays that are currently on the market?

Yes.  After some initial testing, the user soon declared, “I’ll absolutely strap them on the next time I’m stressed out.”

What was the exact device tested?  Who was the user?

Want to have an ASMR whisper session with Apple’s virtual assistant Siri? Coming soon.

ASMR Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response UniversityA December 14, 2017 application from Apple to the US patent Office shows Apple’s interest  to patent, “a digital assistant that is capable of detecting a whispered speech input and providing a whispered speech response.”

Why would you want Siri to whisper to you?

One benefit could be to have a digital whisper bot in your pocket for ASMR sessions.  Siri would not be the first virtual ASMR artist though, Amazon’s Alexa can already whisper (see link at bottom).

I don’t think ASMR sessions are Apple’s intent.  Their proposed benefit is more about privacy and courtesy.

Viewers of ASMR videos may someday be able to feel the touch of the ASMR artist

ASMR Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response2020 update: another report of a virtual-touch haptic device that could someday enhance ASMR videos (Summary; Research Article).

Initial 2017 post: Video ASMR artists can directly stimulate ASMR in viewers with gentle sounds, soft voices, and comforting visuals.

But they have been unable to directly stimulate the sensation of touch through a video.  And touch may be the strongest trigger of ASMR.

Could there be a way to feel the touch of someone who is in another room or even in another country?

Yes.

Researchers at Simon Fraser University in Canada have designed gloves called Flex-N-Feel to be worn by individuals at separate locations.  When one person Flexes their fingers in the gloves, the other person Feels the touch via vibrotactile sensations on their skin.
