According to the Dec 26, 2024 article titled, “The Top YouTube Searches in 2024“, ‘ASMR’ was the most searched term.
However, according to the Dec 17, 2024 article, “Most Searched Things on Google in 2024“, the term ‘ASMR’ didn’t even appear in the Top 100 most searched terms.
Did these two different lists use different methods? I don’t think so because the lists were published by the same company.
So why was ‘ASMR’ the #1 search term on YouTube, but the term ‘ASMR’ didn’t even make the top 100 search terms on Google?
The answer may be simple.
People are likely to use Google to learn about ASMR.
Therefore, the low search for ‘ASMR’ on Google in 2024 probably reflects that most people already understand what ASMR is – so they are less likely to search for it on Google.
In contrast, people are likely to use YouTube to find and watch ASMR videos.
Therefore, the high search for ‘ASMR’ on YouTube in 2024 probably reflects the high volume of people who are still enjoying ASMR videos.
The graph below from Google Trends shows the global search trendline for the term ‘ASMR’ on YouTube from 2009 to 2024.

The graph shows that the interest in ASMR on YouTube today is similar to the annual interest in ASMR over the past 3 years.
Furthermore, the graph above and the data from the article may indicate that the peak interest in watching ASMR videos occurred in 2022-23 and is not much different today.
In summary, this data may support that interest in watching ASMR videos today is ‘almost’ as strong as ever.
